Message from us

Yonetsuru Sake Brewery (brand name is "Yonetsuru") was founded in the Edo Period of Japan, with a history of 300 years. It was a purveyor of the Uesugi Domain (most famous minister is Uesugi Yozan) before the Meiji Era, and it has formed a basis for a representative brand of Yamagata Prefecture in recent years.

The brewery is in Takahata Town, located in the southern part of Yamagata Prefecture and the northeast of Yonezawa City. Takahata is called "Land of Mahoroba (*)", and famous for fine agricultural products including cherries and pears. The brewery is locally known as "Brewery of Mahoroba".

*"Mahoroba" is an ancient word, meaning a comfortable land with natural blessings surrounded by hills and mountains.

Since the release of Ginjo sake product "Yonetsuru F-1" in 1969, the brewery has been nationally known as a pioneer in the Ginjo boom in recent years.

In the "New Sake Appraisal Competitions" annually hosted by a national institute, the brewery has won over 20 gold prizes. Our brewing skills have been highly appreciated over the years.

Yonetsuru has special interests in "rice" as ingredient. The "Takahata Sake Rice Group", organized by local farmers including brewery workers, has grown sake rice since 1983. As a result of its activities, it has developed original rice suitable for sake brewing named "Kissui", and Yonetsuru has introduced two sake products of Junmai (fine) and Junmai Daiginjo (finest).

The brewing of Yonetsuru, carefully performed by local workers with original skills, is based on harmony with nature and people. We are trying to brew soft and honest sake specific to the snow region.
